Trevor’s Treasures

Now this is what it is all about!!  On Monday August 25, 2008 we made our first visit to the unit.  The families thoroughly enjoyed having us there.  The kids enjoyed the toys/crafts and the parents enjoyed a nice dinner and conversation with others that have found themselves battling cancer.  We are looking forward to many more visits in the future.

December 2010:  3rd Annual Christmas Visit to INOVA Fairfax Pediatric Oncology Unit (12/24/2010)

Santa took time out of his busy schedule on Christmas Eve to join us again this year.  All of the kids visited with Santa and got to pick toys from our treasure boxes.  One of Trevor’s home nurses even came along with her family to help out.

November 2010:  2nd Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for Families in INOVA Fairfax Pediatric Oncology Unit

Families enjoyed Thanksgiving Dinner delivered to their rooms.  We provided toys for the kids and their siblings as well.  Gave the families a sense of Thanksgiving when they could not be at their own homes to enjoy it.  Unfortunately, due to hospital restrictions, no photos were taken.

Spring 2010:  Noahs Ark Workshop for Children in INOVA Fairfax Pediatric Oncology Unit

Our dear friend Kim and her daughter brought Noahs Ark Workshop (stuffed Teddy Bears) to  the hospital for the children to enjoy.  www.noahsarkworkshop.com/kimwence1359

We were also pleased to have ABC News join us and make a few of the kids tv stars.  Check it out!!

December 2009:  Bob Brown Puppets visits the Outpatient Clinic Again for a Snowflake Show

Bob Brown came back for another visit with the kids in the outpatient clinic.  He put on a great Snowflake Show.  The kids really enjoyed it!!  Trevor was in the hospital up in Philadelphia so we had to miss and currently have no pictures.

November 2009:  1st Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for Families in INOVA Fairfax Pediatric Oncology Unit

This year we were able to visit the Pediatric Oncology Unit at Fairfax INOVA Hospital and provide Thanksgiving Dinner.  Boston Market was wonderful in delivering a wonderful meal for all of the families to enjoy.

We were able to bring Louis the Magician of Child Time Magic to put on a show for the kids the week of Trevor’s birthday.  Because of flu precautions there were very few kids that could actually attend, but the ones that did had a blast as did all of the wonderful nurses that take care of the children on a daily basis.  www.childtimemagic.com

September 2009:  Puppet Show for the children in the Pediatric Oncology Outpatient Clinic

Our Spring 2009 visit went great!!  The children had a blast stuffing their own stuffed animals, eating goodies and choosing toys from the treasure boxes.  We are so happy to be able to do this for these children that have endured so much.  We will post pictures soon!!  Take a look at what one of our new friends had to say about our visit on their Caring Bridge Site…

“There were several surprises when we arrived at the Doctor's office.  First, we were greeted by a young boy named Trevor and his family.  Trevor successfully beat up on a cancer known as Neuroblastoma.  His parents decided to start an organization called Trevor's Treasures.  Trevor's Treasures, as you might guess, provides gifts to pediatric cancer patients.  They had bins upon bins full of all kinds of cool stuff.  Mark was in "toy-land" heaven as he chose his special gift.  He quickly chose the Bakugan balls and cards.  Shannon, Gary and Sydney gave Chris and Megan a gift as well.

The next surprise, Trevor's Treasures arranged for a Build-A-Bear type company called Noah's Ark to visit the office.  The kids had the opportunity to stuff and dress an animal of their choosing.  Another great distraction until it was time for Mark's port to get accessed.  Thanks to Trevor and his family for the nice surprise!”

Thank you to Kim from Noah’s Ark, and her friends and family, for helping us make this happen. www.noahsarkworkshop.com/kimwence1359

Spring 2009:  Spring Visit to INOVA Fairfax Pediatric Oncology Unit

What a success!!  All of the families were very appreciative of our visit over the holidays!!  We even made the ABC News!!  We are not only raising funds for research, toys for children, and bringing smiles to the children’s faces, WE ARE RAISING AWARENESS, which can go a long way in finding a cure for this awful disease that has claimed the lives of way too many children.  Here is what one woman who was visiting the hospital when we went for the visit had to say:    “Trevor, and Family- I wanted to say that you are doing WONDERFUL things for families, and children. Trevor, you are a smart little guy your idea of Treasures for the kids is so awesome! I saw first hand tonight the smiles that you add to Mom's, and kids faces when they see thier new treasures. I was at Fairfax INOVA tonight visiting a friend and her son. Her son is going to be in the hospital maybe through Christmas until the end of the week. When I first arrived there was a nurse that stopped by and mentioned your story, and that there were gifts (Trevor's Treasures) that my friend should take a moment and see what was  there for her son.  I was able to stay with her son so she could take a moment to herself and see what it was all about... WELL, she came back and had a HUGE smile on her face! And, then we were able to open the package for her son. (He is a little guy and still in a crib) We played with the cars for a long time. He was smiling, and making funny car sounds. She was so excited, and was able to "relax" a little bit just seeing her son with a big smile on his face. SOoto you, and to you family that is supporting you and your dream of Trevor's Treasures- THANK YOU! May the blessing keep coming your way, and please continue doing great things for families. Merry Christmas!”

June 2011:  1st Bi-Monthly “Trevor’s Treasures Night” at INOVA Fairfax Pediatric Oncology Unit

Trevor was actually in the hospital as a patient during this event.  We invited the children and their siblings down to the playroom to play BINGO.  They had fun and enjoyed dinner from Uno’s Chicago Grill.  The winners got prizes, which as amazing as it sounds, everybody was a winner!!

October 2011:  “Trevor’s Treasures Night” at INOVA Fairfax Pediatric Oncology Unit

Our dear friend Amy Black and her Girl Scout Troop 4134 joined us for this visit.  The troop put together craft bags in the oncology play room to be distributed while Trevor delivered his toys room-to-room.  It was really nice to have the girls so involved.  Boston Market was a huge hit and so was the treasure chest of toys!!  Trevor visited with a lot of fellow battlers, each having their own stories but truly appreciating one another.
